4K vs 1080p Monitor
Professional esports gamers opt for 1080p over 4K for the overall feel – large 4K monitors sound great, but overall, they require more computing power and (silly as it may sound) give your eyes more work. This is not a problem when you play at the hobby level, but when you are a professional gamer, everything makes a difference.
The market is flooded with a wide variety of 1080p monitors; it is incredibly easy to find a specific model for your budget and needs. That said, it’s just as easy to fall victim to a poor-quality monitor. So if you’re looking for a new 1080p monitor, you can’t go wrong with one of our personal favorites.
When it comes to 4K for monitors, there are additional things to consider, including what you’ll be using the monitor for: gaming, content creation, or everyday use.

1080p Vs. 4K Monitor: The Difference
Choosing a new gaming monitor is never easy. These pieces of equipment cost a penny, and with so many different options available, it can be really difficult to make sure you’re getting the best for your hard-earned money. To see if 4K is worth gaming, let’s go over the key differences between 1080p and 4K, hopefully giving you the tools to make your final decision.
If you’re looking to play at 1080p, you’d better use a 21.5 “to 27” monitor.
However, if you are looking to experience the best graphics available on the market, then you will want a 4K gaming monitor. To really take advantage of the technology, you will need a monitor larger than 24 “. It may be possible to experience 4K resolution on a 24” monitor, but at that size, text will be very difficult to read. When it comes to 4K gaming, it ideally, a 27”or larger monitor is our preferred choice.
The monitors listed in this article have the best graphics cards especially for 1440p gaming even some are available for under $230 so overall it’ll give you a good financial sense.
This is one of our benchmarking videos for the RTX 2060 GPU. While this graphics card is powerful, it is not considered strong enough to handle the challenges of 4K, but it still gives you a clear indication of the differences within the game.
1080p can be “Full HD”, but 4K is “Ultra HD”. And, like Street Fighter, Ultra is better.
As you can see in the video above, when your graphics are set low on a 4K monitor, the shadows don’t look as good. Even so, it still exhibits exceptional quality and depth of color.
Long term/future test
You still can’t go wrong investing in a 1080p monitor these days, mainly because they offer excellent refresh rates and response times, which are essential when gaming at a competitive level. That said, considering how cheap 4K monitors have become, you’re likely considering your options.
4K games have already caught on in the mainstream, so there are no worries about this kind of technology disappearing anytime soon. And since it’s still relatively new, you should be able to enjoy 4K gaming without worrying about updating your monitor anytime soon. Sure there are 5K monitors, but we don’t have the hardware to use them yet, which brings us to our next criteria.
Most decent graphics cards these days can run 1080p games at 60+ FPS in most AAA games.
But, if you want to play AAA games in 4K resolution, you will have to invest in one of the higher performance GPUs. Take 2080 Ti, for example. The computational power required to run 4K efficiently is far greater than that required by 1080p. Anything less than an RTX 2060 Super will not be worth the investment.
Like graphics cards, just about any decent monitor, you can get today, based on brand and features, is guaranteed to run in 1080p.
Also, almost all AAA games have native 1080p support.
But if you get a 4K monitor, it is not guaranteed that you can play all your games in 4K.
This is especially true with older games because the images are basically enhanced rather than displayed in true 4K. And of course, there’s a chance that the older game just doesn’t have high enough quality art assets to take advantage of 4K.
That said, almost all of your modern AAA game titles will be 4K compatible.
You can get a decent 1080p monitor for less than $ 200. However, prices will vary based on monitor refresh rate, adaptive sync technology, response time, and brand.
On the other hand, while 4K monitors have dropped in price dramatically from over $ 600 (and even up to $ 1000) to around $ 400- $ 500 these days, they are still expensive compared to 1080p monitors. And that’s even before you stop to consider advanced features like refresh rate, adaptive sync technology, or response times.
4K monitors for content creators
If you want to create the highest quality content available, you will definitely need a 4K monitor, as well as the powerful computer equipment required to edit and render 4K content.
Whether it’s worth it is entirely up to you and your budget.
Since most people still use 1080p displays, only a select number of your viewer base will be able to enjoy your content in all its glory.
So while a 4K monitor will undoubtedly make your content more appealing to some, you shouldn’t feel the need to rush and get one just yet.

4K monitors for everyday use
In case you just want a 4K monitor for casual everyday use like surfing the web and watching movies, you’re in luck. Like 4K TVs, 4K monitors are getting less expensive, which means you can get a high-quality 4K monitor for a very good price.
However, keep in mind that when it comes to 4K gaming, you will need a fairly powerful PC with a robust GPU to properly enjoy it.

The Dell UltraSharp U3415W is a huge 34-inch curved-screen monitor that offers exceptional performance and is packed with features.
This monitor uses In-Plane Switching (IPS) panel technology to deliver rich, accurate colors and solid grayscale performance, with wide viewing angles.

Dell’s UltraSharp monitors have always maintained a pleasing aesthetic, but the U3415W takes it to another level with a sleek (mostly) bezel-less design that makes the gigantic 34-inch panel appear even larger than it already is.
The U3415W has a slim (3/4-inch) matte black bottom bezel that has a Dell logo, four touch-sensitive function buttons, and a power switch, but the top and side bezels are practically microscopic.
The U3415W offers highly accurate colors out of the box. As shown in the chromaticity table below, the colors red, green, and blue (represented by the colored dots) are all very closely aligned with their ideal CIE coordinates (represented by the boxes).
As is often the case with quality IPS panels, colors appear uniformly saturated and rich intones. The grayscale performance is also top-notch; the panel had no problem reproducing every shade of gray in the 64-stop grayscale DisplayMate test and showed intricate highlight and shadow details in my test images.
Whether you’re looking to replace your dual monitor setup with a huge ultra-wide monitor or want to bring the curved-screen experience to your desktop, the Dell UltraSharp U3415W is a great choice.
Apple worked directly with LG to develop this display, making it an easy option if it’s in their price range.
Not only does it offer a full 4K display in an easy-to-accommodate 24-inch size, but it can connect to your MacBook Pro with a single cable, which will send power from the display to your Pro and take both videos and data backward.
The reason it takes data is that it is also a USB-C and Thunderbolt 3 hub, you can connect any accessory that you use regularly to the monitor and still have a single cable connected to your laptop, so it is easy to grab when to do. . need to go mobile.
The only flaw with it being a hub is that it only has more USB-C / Thunderbolt connections (they use the same type of plug); some normal USB-A ports and even an Ethernet would be helpful, but you will need a separate hub for those.

The Philips 276E8VJSB is one of the cheapest 27 ″ IPS 4K monitors available.
Naturally, some sacrifices had to be made to lower the price of the monitor. In this review, we’ll go over what those sacrifices are and if they’re worth it.
The Philips 276E8VJSB monitor is based on an IPS panel with a 10-bit faded color depth (8-bit + 2-bit FRC) and an sRGB color gamut of ~ 109%.
The slightly extended sRGB gamut gives you more saturated colors (not oversaturated, which is good), making them look more realistic.
If you need to do some critical colorwork, you can limit the gamut to the sRGB space for less vibrant, but more accurate color reproduction.
The Philips 276E8VJSB 4K monitor has an exceptionally low input lag of just ~ 3ms at 60Hz, which means there are no noticeable lags in video games or any other use.
Naturally, being locked at 60Hz / FPS (Frames Per Second) will turn off most PC gamers, especially those who prefer fast-paced games as they may opt for a lower resolution / higher refresh rate display at this price range.
With 4k 3840 x 2160 pixels, windows, multiple tabs facility, different applications, High DPI, VESA mount, sub-4K resolutions & it is a good value for your money overall.
You’ll never experience ghosting and latency with this monitor & it carries an iMac, awesome display even will give you an amazing experience than 5K.
The Philips 276E8VJSB is an excellent 27 ″ IPS 4K monitor for the price. While it lacks some important features like FreeSync and VESA mount compatibility, it’s also cheaper than the alternatives, which can be a good trade-off for those on a budget or those who don’t need such features.
If you don’t mind the downsides (lack of FreeSync and VESA mounting) the Philips 276E8VJSB is an excellent 4KIPS monitor for the price, offering amazing image quality and smooth performance.
WHO SHOULD BUY ONE (OR TWO) 1080P DISPLAYS
The most important reason to buy 1080p first is the best option. Because 1080p displays are much cheaper than 4K displays, you can get more monitors for your money; and more monitors are better than more resolution.
While a 4K (3840×2160) screen translates to four times as many pixels as 1080p (1920 x 1080), it certainly doesn’t equate to four times the screen space.
Scaling text and images can increase usable screen space a bit by allowing you to group more information on a single screen, but tiny text and images are not fun to work with.
Windows 10’s Snap feature and its spiritual successor, FancyZones (go. Pcworld.com/fnzn), can help, as they both allow you to arrange windows in various corners and zones on your monitor or monitors. But Snap limits you to four windows on a screen at a time, for reasons that should be obvious: Windows eventually get too small to use. Adding display space allows you to see more applications and windows at once, so you can juggle multiple tasks or add focal points to your workspace.
This good-looking display/ high micro-4K monitor has an LED backlight, excellent static image quality with $690 cost, not the biggest price will give you an amazing experience.
Right now, even a pair of 1080p displays is way cheaper than a single 4K monitor. A decent 1080p display like this 22-inch Acer KA220HQ (go.pcworld.com/ka22) is priced at $ 100, while the cheapest standalone 4K display we could find was the LG 24UD58-B (go.PCWorld. com / 24ud), a 24-inch screen priced at $ 297. If you’re interested in a multi-monitor setup, you simply get more for your money with 1080p.
