Unknown FaceTime CallerRecently, there has been a rash of unwanted FaceTime calls. If you’ve received an unknown FaceTime call from someone you don’t know, you’re not alone. Unknown numbers have begun making group FaceTime calls to some FaceTime users.

Unknown FaceTime Caller

In the middle of the night, some users have reported they received about twenty phone calls from the company. We were able to fix the issue by blocking all members of the group call. We were able to resolve the issue this way, but other people have reported that the callers then dial a different number and try again.

Sadly, FaceTime does not have a feature that allows you to block all calls from persons who are not on your contact list. Despite this, it is possible to block unknown FaceTime callers which you don’t recognize.

So, how to block an Unknown FaceTime caller:

1. Block the Contact in the FaceTime App:

The Messages app, Phone app, Mail app, and FaceTime app are all places where you can block certain phone numbers or addresses at any moment. Each app’s blocking process is the same across the board. So, you wouldn’t have to do it again and repeatedly. As a result, if you block someone from one app, it will also block them from the other four.

If you’ve been receiving unknown FaceTime calls, blocking the contact is an easy way to stop them.

i) Phone App:

Follow the instructions below to block an unknown caller’s phone number on the Phone app:

  • Click on the Recent tab in the Phone app.
  • To add a phone number to your block list, go to the top of the screen and touch the “i” button next to the phone number.
  • To block contacts, scroll to the bottom and select Block this Caller.
  • Your phone will block the unknown caller’s number when you confirm the request.
  • Go back to the main menu. On any app, an unknown caller can no longer call or text you.

ii) Messages App:

  • To block iMessages from an unknown caller, open the text messages and click on them.
  • To access a screen in the Phone app, tap the contact symbol directly above the number on the screen and select info or i.
  • Scroll down by clicking the arrow to the right of the number at the top.
  • To block communications from the contact, tap the Block this Caller option. Phone calls and messages from unknown senders will be blocked as well.

iii) FaceTime App:

  • The easiest way to block someone on FaceTime is to open it and tap on the person’s name in the contact list.
  • To block a particular contact, simply click the “i” button next to their name (email address or phone number).
  • To find the Block this Caller option, go to the bottom of the page.
  • Once you confirm the action, the contact will be blocked.
  • You will no longer get notifications about FaceTime calls from the blocked contact. They can still leave a voice message, but it will be secretly sent to a hidden Blocked Messages folder.

iv) Mail App:

  • Add the sender to an existing contact or create a new contact if they are not in your contact list.
  • Make sure you’re in your Settings app and tap on mail.
  • In the threading menu, select the Blocked Sender Options and then select one of the three options that appear.
  • Return to the mail tab and scroll down to the bottom of the page.
  • After that, select Blocked as the final option on the screen.
  • Select Blocked and select Add New. You can also block a specific contact by adding their name here.

2. Disable FaceTime:

A bug may be caused if you’ve been receiving a lot of spam group FaceTime calls. As a result, it’s recommended to turn off FaceTime on your iPhone or iPad for a while until the problem is solved.

Here’s how to disable the FaceTime app on your iOS device.

  • Navigate to the Settings app on your phone.
  • Take a look at the FaceTime option by clicking on it.
  • To turn off FaceTime, click on the switch next to the app.
  • You will no longer receive notifications for video calls if you disable FaceTime.
  • You won’t be able to tell the caller if you’ve turned it off. It will appear to them that you are not taking the call.

Follow the steps described below to disable the FaceTime app in macOS:

  • Open the FaceTime app.
  • Select FaceTime from the menu bar.
  • Uncheck “Enable this account” from the settings menu.
  • The FaceTime app on your iPhone and Mac will be disabled as a result of this action. You can enable it by following the same steps as described above.

3. Enable Silence Unknown Callers:

Silence Unknown Callers is another simple way to stop receiving calls from unknown callers. Instead of telling you, your iPhone, iPad, or iPod will automatically block new or unsaved numbers.

Follow the procedures listed below to enable this feature:

  • To access the Phone app, go to Settings and select it.
  • “Silence Unknown Callers” is at the bottom of the page.
  • To activate the functionality, click on the switch next to Silence Unknown Callers.
  • All calls from unknown numbers will be silenced with this feature. In your recent call list, you’ll be able to find them. The feature will be disabled for 24 hours if you dial an emergency number from your phone.

Final words:

In addition, for FaceTime to regain its users’ trust, Apple needs to develop a more secure method of protecting users’ privacy. They should not have to wake up in the middle of the night with unknown FaceTime calls.
