Why are my AirPods so quiet?

AirPods are one of Apple’s most popular items. They’re simple to use and quite efficient! However, there are occasions when they have concerns that must be treated. One common issue is that AirPods get silent or have a low volume over time.

There are several reasons as to why might feel like your AirPods have decreased the volume with time. Most of these issues can be dealt with easily as they are not related to the hardware of your AirPods.

Why are my AirPods so quiet

First and foremost, you should be mindful that there is no one cause for the AirPods’ low volume or quiet sound. There might be several causes for this, but there is no way to tell for sure what the specific problem is unless you try different things on your own first to get the most obvious issues out of the way, we’ll be taking a look at the possible reasons as to why your AirPods have decreased volume with time.

The most obvious thing that you should try first before going any further is to clean your AirPods for any dust or ear wax that could be possibly blocked the speaker vents. So, if your AirPods aren’t clean or sounding properly, try pulling them out and carefully checking through the small holes on the backside of each pod. Before attempting any other ways, try blowing air into it with a blow-dryer to clear out any possible clogging.

You should regularly clean your AirPods with tissue paper or a towel to avoid ear wax from getting into your AirPods as that will further decrease the sound quality and volume of your AirPods with time and lessen the bass as well which might ruin the music experience for a lot of listeners.

Another reason for your AirPods’ low volume may be that your iOS needs to be updated and so some software issues may be causing this unusual degradation in your volume quality. If you didn’t upgrade your iOS device or AirPods when the latest updates were released, the reason they’re having issues might be related to software issues. If you have an available update, you should first update both of them to a newer version of iOS to cut out any possibility of software issues.

If you’re having Bluetooth difficulties with your AirPods, ensure all of your settings are accurate and that they’ve been properly linked with both of your devices. To resolve the issue, you may need to unplug and reconnect your AirPods in the Bluetooth setup on each device.

Going into low power mode on an iOS device can sometimes limit audio output from specific apps that are consuming too much battery, which might impact how loud audio plays even if there are no volume control options in the app you’re listening to audio with. This does not make a lot of sense given that AirPods have their own battery, but that is just how iOS operates. So, if your AirPods suddenly stop working when connected to an iOS device, check to see whether you have low power mode activated and disable it to see if the problem is fixed.

Sometimes your iPhone may have a maximum volume setting that may be preventing your AirPods from reaching their true maximum volume. This feature is on most iOS and Android devices to prevent permanent hearing damage from listening at high volume for an extended period. This feature may be interfering with your AirPods’ volume so you can go ahead and increase the volume manually from the settings on your iPhone.

Not only this but another reason for this problem may be that it’s difficult to determine when the AirPods battery is about to die because they normally last at least a few hours depending on how you use them. It is also normal for one AirPods battery to be consumed before the other. This is rather normal.

If your AirPods are completely dead, no audio will be transmitted. So, before you try to utilize the pods, check to ensure they each do have battery life remaining in them. Also, check sure your AirPods case is correctly charged and has enough power to charge your AirPods.

If nothing seems to be making sense, you can always check your equalizer settings as you might have mistakenly messed them up and it might be causing an overall lower volume output. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the term “Equalizer,” it is a setting that allows you to fine-tune the frequency response of each speaker/headphone to reflect how we perceive sound in real life. Try setting your equalizer settings back to default and check if that fixes the problem.

If one of the AirPods has a considerably lower volume level than the other, this might explain why they appear silent. There might be an issue with syncing two AirPods at the same volume.

If you’re not sure if your AirPods are at the same volume level, there’s a quick method to find out. Take one of them out and re-connect it. If one AirPod is playing audio considerably louder than the other, try reducing the volume on both and disconnecting them both at the same time, then reconnecting them both at the same time again to re-calibrate their volume levels. This will most likely solve your problem.

If none of the above works in your case, then your AirPods might have a bigger issue than just dust blocking the vents or software issues. In the worst-case scenario, you might have gotten some liquid or some other substance into your AirPods. This might be causing them to misbehave and stop playing audio at all and if this is the case, you should return them to Apple for repair/replacement within the warranty term.

These days many Apple users have been complaining about quieter AirPods which might be happening due to the several reasons we discussed above. If none of it works to help you, you can always try contacting Apple through their customer support helpline and see if they can help you with your problem.
